COMMON PROBLEMS
Water damage doesn’t always announce itself immediately. If your phone has been exposed to liquid — a dropped phone in the sink, a splash, a soaking in the rain, a trip through the washing machine — watch for these signs:
It won’t turn on at all. The most common outcome of significant water damage. Do not try to force it.
It turned on briefly then died. Short circuits from liquid are unpredictable. The fact it came on doesn’t mean it’s fine — internal damage may still be progressing.
The screen looks strange. Water under the display causes discolouration, dark patches, blurring or lines you didn’t have before.
It’s behaving erratically. Random restarts, buttons not responding, the touchscreen triggering on its own — all classic signs of corrosion beginning to affect the components.
The charging port isn’t working. Water sits in ports. Corrosion builds quickly on charging connectors and can prevent any charge getting in at all.
It’s working but sounds muffled. Speaker and microphone mesh fills with water. Even if the phone seems fine, audio quality is often the first casualty.
It’s getting hot for no reason. Liquid causing resistance across components creates heat. Don’t ignore this — it can escalate quickly.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
Every water damage recovery with us includes:
Full internal assessment. We open the device, inspect the board and components under magnification, and assess the extent and location of the damage before anything else happens.
Corrosion removal. Liquid leaves mineral deposits behind that continue corroding components long after the water itself has gone. We clean these away carefully and thoroughly.
Drying and decontamination. Proper treatment of the internal components to remove moisture and prevent further damage.
Component level inspection. We check each affected area individually rather than treating the device as a single unit. Water doesn’t damage phones uniformly.
Data recovery where possible. If the device itself can’t be saved, we’ll do what we can to recover your photos, contacts and data from the affected components.
An honest outcome. We’ll tell you exactly what we found, what we did, and what the prognosis is. If a device is beyond saving, we’ll say so — and we won’t charge you for a repair we couldn’t do.
TIME
Water damage is the one repair where we’ll never give you a false deadline. Every device is different. A phone that was in fresh water briefly needs very different treatment to one that’s been in salt water, or that’s been soaking for hours, or that has visible corrosion already forming on the board.
What we can tell you is this: we assess quickly, we work efficiently, and we’ll keep you updated throughout. The moment we know what we’re dealing with and what the outcome is likely to be, you’ll know too. We won’t keep you in the dark.
PRICE
Water damage recovery is quoted after assessment — because no two cases are the same and quoting a price before we’ve seen inside the device wouldn’t be honest. What we can tell you:
There is an initial charge assessment of £45 because of the amount of work to get it to testing stage. We open it, we look and we deep clean and then..we tell you what we’re dealing with. This is where we may have to quote for additional work if you want it as a working phone, often screens fail or face ID fails, but if you want just the data we are often able to do that for the £45.
If we can fix it and it neds any additional work/parts, we’ll give you a clear price before any work begins. If you don’t want to proceed, you don’t pay.
If we can’t fix it, you don’t pay for the attempt — but we’ll make sure you leave knowing exactly what happened and what your options are.
WHY CHOOSE US
We’re honest about water damage. It’s the one repair where honesty matters more than optimism. We’ll tell you upfront if something looks terminal rather than take your money and hand it back in the same state.
We assess before we quote. You’ll never be asked to commit to a price before we know what we’re actually dealing with.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
My phone fell in the toilet / sink / pool — what should I do right now?
Turn it off immediately if it isn’t already. Do not try to charge it. Do not put it in rice — this is a myth that delays proper treatment and allows corrosion to progress. Pat the outside dry, don’t shake it, and get it to us as quickly as you can. Time matters with water damage.
Is the rice method actually effective?
No. Rice absorbs some surface moisture but does nothing to treat the internal components, and the time you spend waiting gives corrosion more opportunity to spread. The sooner a water-damaged device is properly assessed and treated, the better the chances of recovery.
My phone is waterproof — why has it been damaged?
Water resistance ratings degrade over time. Seals wear down, the phone takes small knocks that compromise the rating, and previous repairs can affect the integrity of the waterproofing. An IP68 rating is not a guarantee, and it has limits on depth and duration that are often exceeded in real-world accidents.
Can you recover my photos and data even if the phone can’t be saved?
Sometimes, yes. Data recovery from water-damaged devices is possible in many cases even when the device itself is beyond repair. We’ll always try if the device can’t be restored, and we’ll tell you honestly what’s achievable before we attempt it.
How long can I wait before bringing it in?
Don’t wait. Every hour that passes after liquid exposure gives corrosion more time to spread across the board. Phones that are brought in within a few hours of the incident have significantly better recovery rates than ones that have been sitting in a drawer for three days. Get it to us as soon as you can.
Will my insurance cover this?
Many phone insurance policies cover accidental liquid damage — check your policy details. We can provide a written assessment of the damage which may be useful for an insurance claim regardless of the repair outcome.
What if you can’t fix it?
We’ll tell you what we found, explain what was damaged and why it couldn’t be recovered, and return the device to you. There is no charge for a repair we couldn’t complete.
Do you fix tablets and iPads with water damage too?
es — all smartphones and tablets, regardless of make or model.
We have a blog post about it here too if you want to read more
What Our Clients Say
Hear directly from our satisfied customers about their seamless water damage repair journeys with us.
Mend my iPhone answered my call at 8am on Monday morning, and said my phone could be fixed in 30minutes.
He was very friendly and efficient, I will definitely use him again when I inevitably smash my screen again.
Rebecca Woodfield
Great service as always, used James for years and wouldn’t go elsewhere for my phone repairs!
Tobie Hartwell
I used James for the first time yesterday and I have to say I was very impressed. He was knowledgeable, engaging and he got the job done in 10 minutes (for 30% less than Apple charge for the same job). It was a straightforward battery replacement on this occasion but the experience has given me confidence to use James again and recommend him to others.
