Top 10 Reasons to Upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro Models
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are part of Apple’s massive September event is now only 1 month away and based on all the leak updates we’ve been getting, I fully believe this is going to be one of the best upgrades in many years, especially for the Pro Models. In this blog post, I’m going to share 10 reasons that just might be enough to get you to upgrade this year. So let’s start off with reason number one.
1. Significantly Larger Batteries
This year, we are finally getting significantly larger batteries. We just got a brand new leak that came out a couple of days ago with an incredibly exciting battery update. First of all, the regular iPhone 16 Pro is going to have a battery that’s 9.25% larger than before, which is just fantastic, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max model is 5.74% bigger.
The big question is, how is Apple going to be able to increase the battery capacity that much on the 16 Pro Models? Well, it’s a combination of two different upgrades. The first one is Apple’s new stacked battery cell technology, which is a whole lot more safe than the current Tech because it doesn’t swell as much, and it allows Apple to basically pack in more milliamp hours of battery juice within the same battery size. The second thing is the fact that the 16 Pro and Pro Max models will be getting bigger in terms of the actual dimensions, specifically just a little bit wider and a lot taller.
2. Larger Displays on the iPhone 16 Pro Models
The 16 Pro is going up from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, so it’s gaining 0.2 inches of display size, while the 16 Pro Max is going from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Now, you might think that that’s way too big and the phone’s going to be kind of hard to hold in your hand, but keep in mind that it’s mostly just getting taller, so it’s not really going to change your grip on the phone.
It’s just going to be taller, which means the aspect ratio of the display is growing, which might be a bad thing for, let’s say, watching videos because you’re going to have bigger bars on the side. But if you’re scrolling through TikTok or through the web, you’re going to have more screen real estate, which is going to be really nice.
3. Fixing the Overheating Problem
Apple is finally going to fix the overheating problem that we’ve had for many years, ever since the iPhone 12’s A14 chip that started to use a lot more power. We got a recent leak from The Information that pointed to Apple making a huge internal upgrade on the iPhone 16 models, now including a larger graphite sheet inside of the chassis to help reduce overheating.
This actually matches an older leak from Kutami on Twitter, claiming that the iPhone 16 series will feature a new thermal design using graphene, which has higher thermal conductivity than copper. Now, I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate when you’re outside and your phone overheats. You start getting display dimming, you can’t see anything on the display; it’s just terrible. So, I’m very excited for this change.
4. The 48 Megapixel Ultra Wide Camera
Here’s one of the biggest reasons that I personally am going to upgrade this year: the 48 megapixel Ultra Wide camera is coming for sure on the Pro Models. The current 12 megapixel Ultra Wide is very dated; it hasn’t changed for years and it honestly sucks compared to the other big camera upgrades that we got with the main and with the telephoto.
So, how will the new 48 megapixel Ultra Wide fix it? Well, first of all, it is going to have a much larger sensor, which instantly takes in more light, especially when Apple’s going to use pixel binning, which takes the 48 megapixel sensor and splits it up into four chunks and combines those all together to shoot a 12 megapixel photo, which combines all that light into one, so it’s a lot better for low light photos.
5. New Color Options for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
We are expecting a brand new bronze or certain color that has been leaked by many different sources. Some leaked it and called it the rose gold, some just called it the rose, some called it the desert or the desert yellow, but it’s pretty clear that we are finally getting the gold finish back on the new iPhone 16 Pro Models after Apple ditched it with the new 15 Pro with the introduction of titanium.
I’m very excited for this because it kind of reminds me of when Apple released the iPhone X and they got rid of that nice gold color and everybody really wanted it. They just had the silver and the space gray, and then when they released the XS, they brought the gold back.
6. Updated MagSafe
We are finally getting an update to MagSafe with a brand new thinner coil or thinner design and faster charging speed. We’re now finally getting 20W MagSafe wireless charging, and I think it’s coming this year for sure because we now finally have CH2W charging on the market, which is basically identical to MagSafe.
It works the same way and it even has the same 15W charging speed. So, if Apple wants to keep selling their licensing, they have to do something exclusive with MagSafe and raise it up to 20 watts for official MagSafe compared to CH2.
On top of that, we are also expecting 40W wireless charging, and I’m very excited because right now the charging is very limited. Now, with the new changes with the new graphite sheet that helps with heat dissipation as well as the new stacked battery cell, all of that should help reduce the heat and finally allow for a charging boost up to 40W.
7. New A18 and A18 Pro Chips
Of course, we have the new A18 and A18 Pro chips, which will have a huge boost in performance with the new N3E technology from TSMC. It’s also built with Apple Intelligence AI in mind, with it having a new neural engine, which I think they’re going to upgrade on these new models. I personally think that Apple Intelligence is going to be a huge deal this year and cause a huge upgrade cycle.
8. Super Thin Bezels
We are getting super thin bezels on the 16 Pro Models with the new BRS border reduction structure technology, which should bring the bezels down to only 1.2 mm on the 16 Pro and 1.15 mm on the 16 Pro Max, which is a huge improvement over the 15 Pro Models with 1.71 mm and 1.55 mm bezels.
9. New Capture Button
We are finally getting a new capture button right here, replacing the 5G antenna location. It’s going to be a physical button with kind of like two stops, so if you half press it, you’re going to focus on your photo, and then full press to snap the photo, which is pretty cool. That’s how DSLR cameras work, or you could also use it to kind of long press to record video, especially if you want to do spatial videos, which Apple’s pushing right now.
It’s also going to have a touch surface, so you can kind of swipe left and right to zoom in and out, which is very, very intuitive.
10. Wi-Fi 7
We have Wi-Fi 7, and this is actually a really huge deal because the new Wi-Fi 7 can now connect to all three bands at the same time, including 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, and it seamlessly switches between them. The cool thing is that you no longer have to set up your router and set up three different Wi-Fi names with potentially different passwords for each band. You now just make one Wi-Fi connection that has all three of the bands built in seamlessly, integrated, and switching between them, which makes it a whole lot more simple and it makes it so much more useful than Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. It’s going to be a huge upgrade.
So, with that said, those are the top 10 reasons that you may want to upgrade this year. Let me know your thoughts down below. Definitely check out one of our other blog posts and stay tuned for more updates!
